Things You Should Never Say to A Football Fan

things never say to football fan

Football has the same passion seen in Quaker State 400 races. You know what it’s like to get behind your favorite team. You might have worn your heart on your sleeve and removed some shirts from your wardrobe.

All these fans always have in common is their willingness to say things to other people about another team or player.

Below are things you should never say to a football fan:

You Don’t Get It

It sounds stupid. But so many people say this every time they see a football fan wearing their team’s colors that I thought I’d better put it down here so they don’t make any more enemies. It doesn’t matter if you disagree with them or not.

If you say that they don’t get it, they’ll assume you’re an enemy – which is why they’ll probably ignore your next comments anyway.

It’s Just a Game

This is the most annoying thing you can say to a football fan. Football is indeed just a game but also a significant part of our culture and identity.

Football fans are some of the most passionate people in the world, allowing them to maintain their fandom even after years of disappointment or heartbreak.

They’re not selfish when they take their passion for the sport seriously; they’re just fans who want to see their team succeed more than anyone else.

It’s Only a Loss. It’s Not the End of the World

Football fans get too many games in their lifetime and lose some, but they rarely hear that from someone who knows what they are talking about.

A loss is a loss, whether it happens in the first quarter or at half-time. You can be sure that fans of the other team will take it harder than you do because they have lost more times than you have.

If you try to console someone upset by something that happened during a game, don’t say it’s not the end of the world; tell them how much you love them and how grateful you are for having them as part of your tribe.

It Was a Close Game

The result of a match can be influenced by many factors, including the weather, refereeing decisions, and even the score at half-time. If someone says this to you when they lose, they don’t understand how important winning is.

You might think it’s funny to say something like this if you were watching one player who wasn’t performing well for his team – but it’s not funny when it comes from someone who cares about their team so much!

Your Team Didn’t Deserve to Win

There is a fine line between being supportive and negative, and one of the most challenging things to do is to walk that line without coming across as rude or condescending.

If you find yourself in a situation where you feel the need to comment on your team’s performance, it may be best to keep your mouth closed instead.

It’s Okay, They’ll Win Next Time

You may think it’s nice to say that to a football fan, but believe me, it’s not. It would be best never to say this to anyone because your friend might get angry and start swearing at you.

It doesn’t matter if they are supporters; they want to win and need their team to do so. This is why they support them in the first place and are so excited every time their team scores a goal.

Football Used to be Better in my Days, Son

This is the most frustrating comeback a football fan could ever hear – especially if it comes from a parent. It’s like telling your child they might not be able to get into Harvard because their grades weren’t good enough.

A parent who says this is ultimately looking for validation and reassurance that the sport they love still holds value for them. But it’s irrelevant because football has never been better than it is now!

I hope this list has encouraged you to be a little more tolerant of other people, especially if their situation differs from yours. The next time someone is lamenting the loss of a favorite team, don’t open your mouth unless you can be positive.
