Christmas Craft Ideas for Adults

#1. Pinecone Christmas Tree

Pinecone Christmas Tree

Pinecone Christmas trees are incredibly easy to make, and they look stunning. All you need is a glue gun, cardboard, spray paint, and you guessed it ― pinecones!

First, gather all the pinecones you plan on using, and apply spray paint on each of them individually. Let them dry thoroughly while you prepare your cardboard by cutting it into a circular shape. This will be the base of your tree.

Now, place the largest pine cones horizontally onto the cardboard. Make sure the tips of the pinecones align with the tip of the cardboard or your tree will end up being way too big (unless that’s what you’re going for!).

Once you’re happy with the design, glue each pinecone to the cardboard. Now, let it dry for a few minutes, and then add the next layer of pinecones. Remember to add plenty of glue so your tree doesn’t fall apart. Also, use smaller pinecones for the final layers. Once you get to the top, place your final pinecone vertically.

Let the glue dry a bit more, and add another layer of spray paint. Once you’ve finished, it’s time to decorate your tree!

You can glue on a few ornaments, or just add a bit of paint on the tips of each cone.

The great thing about this craft is that you can design your tree any way you like. In fact, you can make it elegant by using gold, silver, or white spray paint, or you can go for a classic green and red design. It’s completely up to you!

And, if you don’t know where to put your pinecone tree, I think you’re going to love this next craft idea!

#2. Cardboard-Fireplace

Cardboard Fireplace

If you’ve always dreamed of hanging your Christmas stockings on a fireplace, but sadly, don’t have the money to build one, you’re in luck!

Basically, this craft doesn’t require any fancy tools or equipment, so don’t worry, it’s completely beginner-friendly. Here’s what you’ll need:

• Duct tape
• Scissors
• Two cardboard boxes (the size depends on how big you want your fireplace to be)
• One long and flat cardboard box
• A few pieces of cardboard
• Self-adhesive wallpaper
• Yellow (or warm white) fairy lights
• A couple of logs or some twigs (optional)

Note: If you only have smaller boxes, but want a big fireplace, you can stack them on top of one another until they reach your desired height. Just make sure to align the boxes before you tape them up.

For starters, gather your boxes and tape them shut on all ends. Then, space two boxes a few inches apart. Since these two boxes are meant to be the walls of your fireplace, you should place them in the vertical position.

Then, position the third box (the long and flat one) horizontally on top of the previous two, and make sure the edges of all three boxes are aligned. Once you’re happy with the shape of your fireplace, tape all three boxes together.

Next, lay the boxes flat on the floor. Now you’re going to tape some cardboard pieces onto the boxes to create the back of your fireplace. You can opt to paint your cardboard pieces black (or use some black cardboard if you have any) to create a better contrast for the fairy lights.

Once you’ve done that, it’s time to add the self-adhesive wallpaper. And, that’s it! Just add your fairy lights, and a few logs if you can, and you’ve got your very own, incredibly affordable fireplace! The self-adhesive wallpapers or even stencil design options available at A Maker’s Studio provide a wide range of designs and styles to choose from, allowing you to create a fireplace aesthetic that suits your taste and complements your space beautifully.

#5. Spooky Luminary

Spooky Luminary

Want to add a few spooky details to your home? I’ve got just the craft!

I’ve been making these spooky luminaries for a few years now, and each time someone would ask me where I bought them. The greatest thing is, you don’t need to be an artist to make them look good!

First, you’ll need an empty glass jar (everyone has a few of them lying around), some spray paint (I would recommend dark purple or blue, but it’s up to you) a black paint pen, and spooky stencils. You can find some great stencil designs online, and then just print them out.

Next, apply your spray paint to the outside of your jar, and let it dry for a couple of hours. Afterward, place your stencil inside the jar, so the design is visible through the glass. Carefully trace the outline of the image using your black paint pen. Then, fill in the design (also with the black paint pen) and let your jar dry overnight.

For the final touch, light a tea candle and place it inside the jar. Now you’ve got your very own spooky luminary!

#6. Skull String Art

Skull String Art

If you’re a fan of skull decor, I’ve got just the craft for you! You will need:

• a piece of wood (about half an inch thick)
• black paint,
• a paintbrush
• white string
• a hammer
• nails

First, paint the entire piece of wood black. While you let that dry, find a skull stencil online, and print it out. It doesn’t have to be perfect, you’ll just need it to trace the outline. Once you cut out your stencil, tape it to the wood. Remember to cut out the eyes, mouth, and any other parts you won’t be covering with string.

Using a pencil, trace the stencil onto the wood, then remove the paper. Now, spacing the nails about an inch apart, hammer them into the outline. However, be careful not to hammer the nails through the wood.

When you’ve added all the nails, take one end of the white string and tie it to the nail at the top end of the skull outline. Continue wrapping the string around the skull until you’ve covered the entire outline twice.

Next, do the same with the eyes, nose, and mouth. Use separate strings for each part.

Now, starting from the bottom part of the skull, start wrapping the string in a zig-zag pattern. Keep zig-zagging the string horizontally and vertically until you fill out the entire skull. Tie the string to the final nail, and you’re done!

#9. Lavender Candle

Lavender Candle

No matter how old you are, making your mom a Mother’s day gift is the best thing ever! For this craft, you’ll need a mason jar and the following supplies:

• some dried lavender stems
• lavender essential oil
• candle wax (soy or white paraffin wax)
• a candle wick
• wooden skewers
• a double boiler
• twine
• scissors

First, you need to melt your candle wax in the double boiler. Then, place the wick in the center of the mason jar. In order for the wick to stay straight, place the skewer horizontally on the top of the jar. Then, wrap the top of the wick around the skewer.

Once the wax has melted, add some lavender essential oil to it and stir. Carefully pour the wax into the mason jar, and let it cool completely. Once the wax is set, you can cut off the excess wick.

For the final touch, wrap the twine around the neck of the mason jar and add some lavender stems to the end of the twine.

My mother loves candles, which is why I make her one every year, but with different essential oils.

#11. Balloon Garland

Balloon Garland

If you’ve ever seen a balloon garland at a baby shower or birthday party, you know how beautiful it can look. However, what you may not know is that ordering a custom balloon garland can end up costing as much as up to $100!

Luckily, with the right supplies, you can make your very own balloon garland for a fraction of the cost!

Here’s what you’ll need:

• A balloon decorating strip
• Balloons of all shapes and colors (depending on what you want your garland to look like, of course)
• Balloon inflator (or you can do it the old-fashioned way if you prefer)
• Tape
• Self-adhesive plastic hooks
• String

First, inflate your balloons until they reach your desired size, and tie a knot at the end.

Next, take the balloon decorating strip, and cut it down to the size you want. Obviously, the size of the strip will determine how big your garland will be. Take that into consideration before you cut.

Now, take one balloon at a time and insert the part with the knot into the holes on the balloon decorating strip. If you’re not immediately happy with your design you can always go back and fix it later. Also, you can tape the balloons together to make them stay put.

When you’re happy with the balloon placement, tape the parts of the balloons that you put through the holes to the decorating strip in order to keep everything in place.

Finally, if you want to hang the garland, pick a place to add your self-adhesive hooks. Then, loop some string through the holes on the balloon decorating strip, secure it with knots and hang your garland on the hooks.

On the other hand, you can also use some painter’s tape to attach it directly onto a wall.

This yummy treat is the ultimate craft for those of you with a sweet tooth. It’s the perfect way to combine your love for your significant other and your love for candy!

You will need:

• a heart-shaped wreath form
• curling ribbons
• a glue gun
• pins
• scissors
• a box
• lots of candy (with wrappers)

Note: If you can’t find a heart-shaped wreath form, you can use a round one instead. It won’t make the craft any less thoughtful.

First, cut several pieces of ribbon and curl them with your scissors. Now, use the pins to attach the ribbon to the wreath. Remember to space the ribbons out a bit.

Next, apply some glue onto your candy, and stick it to the wreath. However, it’s a good idea to let your glue gun cool down a bit before you apply any glue, or else it could end up melting through the wrappers.
