4 Fun Activities To Do With Your Family And Spend Quality Time Together

activities to do with family

As family members, you want to spend time with one another and make memories that will last a lifetime. However, it can be hard to find the time during our busy schedules. Luckily for you, there are some family-friendly games that are perfect for family gatherings or any other occasion. So grab your family and enjoy!

1. Go to the park and have a picnic

A family picnic is a great way to spend family time together. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for the family members who live far away from each other to come together. The best part about family picnics is that you can make them as simple or elaborate as you like.

A picnic doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but it does need food and drink! Keep some delicious sandwiches, cookies, and sodas in the cooler bag if you don’t want to go hunting around for sustenance when everyone gets hungry.

And remember, even if your family has different tastes in food, there are plenty of things all kinds of people enjoy eating at a picnic: fruit salad with yogurt dressing, grilled vegetables on pita bread with tzatziki sauce (a family favorite!), and even fried chicken!

The family picnic doesn’t have to be a meal, either. Make it a game by challenging each family member to make the best sandwich they can out of just one ingredient (once again, keep some bread in the cooler bag).

Or bring along everyone’s favorite movie and make sure you’ve got snacks for when hunger strikes. And if your family loves outdoor games like Frisbee or soccer… why not set up an impromptu tournament?

There are a bunch of games to play as a family outside, so keep your family time fun and active this weekend. What do you love doing with family members during family picnics? Your imagination is the limit.

2. Play board games together

Board games have been around for centuries and you can find them anywhere in the world. You can play a family board game with parents, grandparents, children, or grandchildren. So, gather around and unscramble some words together to see who has got the most wits with it. There are just so many options to choose from that you are practically limitless.

It is important to choose something everyone agrees upon so that there is no family bickering among family members. Board games are a timeless family tradition that can be enjoyed by all ages and at any time of the year. They provide entertainment for an entire family, or even just one person sitting alone in their room with nothing to do on a rainy day!

Board games come in many shapes and sizes, from classics like Monopoly to more modern takes such as Jenga Championship Edition. Regardless if they have pieces shaped like animals (i.e., Animal Upon Animal) or cards used instead of dice (i.e., Apples To Apples), board games are perfect for family bonding moments!

No matter what your family’s favorite pastime is, e.g., baking cookies, playing chess, or reading books under the stars together you can find family games that cater to those interests.

If everyone is feeling competitive and wants something more fast-paced than a family game of Scrabble, try out some family-friendly sports such as basketball or tennis.

With so many options among board games available for family fun time activities, it can be hard deciding what’s best for your family! Here’s a list of just some board games you can choose from:

  • Jenga
  • Monopoly
  • Scrabble
  • Apples To Apples
  • Animal Upon Animal
  • Chess
  • Checkers
  • Yahtzee! (think of it as poker, but with dice)
  • Bingo
  • Trivial Pursuit
  • Scattergories
  • Scene It!
  • Sequence/Sequence II: The Mysterious Mine

3. Play video games that require multiple players

Video games are very popular and it is time to teach your parents how to play them! This family activity will allow you all quality time together and have a good laugh.

Run around as Mario, Luigi, or Princess Peach in the Mushroom Kingdom. Fight off Bowser’s army of Koopas Troopas Goombas and Piranha Plants in Super Mario Bros. Rescue Daisy by defeating King Boo before he takes over your game with his powers in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon.

Try to teach your parents how to play your favorite games and beat them together! The family video game night is a perfect way of spending quality time with your family members doing fun activities. Get hold of some controllers so everyone can have an input into what’s happening on screen.

Get them involved by asking which part they want to control next. Let one person handle movement while others take charge over items or attacks etc., then swap back round after each level/round.

Playing video games together will help you get closer than ever before with your family members as well as remembering those priceless moments for years to come. You can’t beat that by playing Monopoly or Scrabble alone!

4. Take up a new hobby as a family

If you think it’s time for a change, you can start a family hobby. This way, you can spend time together and try something new that will have your family bonding. Explore the world with your family by going on an adventure abroad.  Teach your children about their heritage through cooking or arts and crafts projects.

For example, if they’re Native American, find out how to make traditional dishes from different tribes as well as designing pieces of art in honor of this history. Get outside and play more games such as frisbee golf (which is kind of like regular golf but involves throwing a plastic disc instead).

You can even go bike-riding once a week to get in some family exercise. Outside activities are an excellent way to get family members to get outdoors and enjoy a little fresh air while they experience something new.

Have you tried any of these ideas to get your family out of the house and spend time together? What did you think about our list? Hopefully, this post has given you some new ideas for what to do with your kids or spouse. Picnic, board games, video games, hobbies, whatever you choose, just remember to have fun.
